Repair Bathroom Flush

Sat, Jul 10, 2015

One of our flushes in the guest bathroom has been making some noise for the last few days. When I opened and looked inside the contraption that controls the water flow sprung a leak. I had replaced this part probably four years ago and decided it is time to replace it again.

We (VtS and I) went to the local Lowes and bought Fluidmaster Universal Toilet Fill Valve (Model 400A; SKU 39961 00002; Lowes #24408).

We came home. Shut off the inlet to the toilet tank. Unscrewed the old unit by removing the washer underneath the tank. Adjusted the unit with 1 1/2 ” higher than it was in the box. Put the new unit and secured it with washer, connected the water inlet, inserted the rubber tubing to the discharge and tried it

Everything worked fine and the leak was fixed.

Score well on Pew Research News Quiz

Friday, March 08, 2013

Tallahassee, FL

I have been reading the news regularly both using my local news paper Tallahassee Democrat and national and international news in Google News, Yahoo News, and NY Times online versions, and Time, and other print magazines.

So I was happy when I scored a 13/13 on a recent Pew Research’s News Quiz. The quiz wasn’t hard but I was happy to know only 8% of the people (~1100) who took the quiz had the same score as I had.

Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary

Tuesday, January 1, 2008, 5 PM

Thiyagu’s family, Usha’s family and I visited the Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary maintained by Tamil Nadu Government. Since it was winter and the season was in full swing with thousands and thousands of storks, herons, spoonbills, cormorants, and other birds. Since we reached late in the evening, all the birds were heading back to their nests and settling down for the night.
