Attending IUCr 2008 at Osaka

IUCr 2008 Conference

OICC, Osaka, Japan

Sunday, August 24, 2008

I picked-up my registration at the counter for the IUCr 2008 Conference at the Grand Cube Osaka (aka Osaka International Convention Center) and picked up my bag and headed straight to the mini symposium. I attended several mini symposium in the macromolecular section in the morning. I ran into couple of my former colleagues and spoke with them,  had coffee and late lunch with them.

In the afternoon session I attended two talks at the macromolecular section and two at the powder diffraction section. There were couple of more I wanted to attend but they were at the same time slot and so I had to miss them.

I also attended the Bruker-AXS Lunch-on session

VTS has helped in preparing for the first day of Teacher Appreciation Week. Today we had a “green carpet” welcome for the teachers and staff. The green carpet was laid out like a “T” and PTO members informed the teachers to walk down the aisle in style. Other PTO members presented a “green star” as well as some gift cards.

Career Day BHPS Middle School

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 1-2 PM

I visited BHPS as part of their middle school career day speeches. I was one among the 10 people who will visit the school and speak about their careers and how they come to that job. They are also asked to talk about the pros and cons of the job.

I spoke about my career as a scientist. How I started as a chemist during my undergraduate days and shifted to physical chemistry during my graduate days and finally settled on biophysicist for my long term job.

I also showed them some crystals, pipettes, polarizing filters, cryo holders and protein crystals under a microscopes.
