The 11th Annual Cultural Glimpses of India was celebrated on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Lawton Chiles High School Auditorium, 7200 Lawton Chiles Lane, Tallahassee, FL 32312.


The program started at 4 PM with welcome speech by the President and recognition of Guest of Honor, The Supt of Leon Co School System. It was followed by two prayer songs and then our Ramayana play.

VTS gave a speech about Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bhai, who as a queen of Jhansi,  a Maratha kingdom in northern India participated in the First War of Indian Independence. He emphasized the fact that not all Indian Freedom Fighters were men. He spoke about her early child hood, her courage in standing up to the British Raj and her bravery in the battles of Jhansi, Tapli, and Gwalior

We celebrated Sarvathari Tamil New Year as Chithirai Sirappu Vizah (Chithirai Special Function). About 70 adults and children from Tamil families attended the cultural program and the potluck dinner that followed it.

VTS performed as Drake in the musical Honk! (story of the Ugly Duckling) for his Year End Show. The cast consisted of 70 people and was performed two days in LEAF Theater at the historical town of Quincy, FL. The director Mister Scott and the cast put on wonderful performance to an audience of about 200 people.

The cast has been practing for more than two months. The performance was well received. This was VTS’s first musical production, even though he has done several drama, Honk! represented the first musical with a major role.
