I had taken half day off and around 3:15 PM VTS and I drove to the newly constructed Eastside Branch Library. The Grand opening was planned for 4:00 PM but until 4:10 PM  it didn’t begin .Then it began with the welcome message  by Mr Vincent Long, Leon County Administrator.

The Chairman of Leon County Commission Mr Dailey delivered the opening remarks followed by Kristen Dozier, County Commissioner (Seat 5.

Then Cay Hohmeister, Leon County Library Director spoke about the East side Branch Library, introduced the staff of the library, explained the amenities and told about all the programs and projects. Then the Leon County Construction Manager and couple of contractors spoke about the unique LEED design of the building and mentioned that the building was constructed to mimic the local area (similar to Mission San Luis).

Then around 4:40 PM we entered the Eastside Branch Library. It was really nicely constructed with lots of space and quite areas.

There were some light refreshments and drinks. We met lots of friends in the library. We stayed until 5:45 PM and got home.

Work-out using Treadmill

Precor 966i @ FSU Rec.

Friday, September 23, 2011

As part of my daily work-out, I have been carrying out a rotating schedule of various techniques and various equipments for my 20-25 minute session. Today, for the first time, I used the Precor 966i Treadmill machine that is available at our Recreation Center. This treadmill gives me exercise mostly for the lower torso and legs.

Since the treadmill has simple options, I set it in normal (default) mode. I used treadmill for 15 minutes work-outs with 5 minutes cooling off. I also can follow the Calories burned, distance climbed, steps/minute and other details in the display that is available on the monitor in front of me. This way, I can monitor my workout for lower body. Today I climbed for about 16 minutes and burned close to 80 Calories and walked for about 3 minutes to cool-off.

As part of my daily work-out, I have been carrying out a rotating schedule of various techniques and various equipments for my 20-25 minute session. Today, like many other days, I have used the Precor EFX576i Elliptical Crosstrainer that is available at our gymnasium. This crosstrainer gives me exercise both to the upper torso, lower toros, and legs.

I usually select one of the several work-out options available in the trainer: manual, interval, variety, and performance. I set it between 14-16 minutes work-outs with 5 minutes cooling cycle. I try to use both hands and legs in the elliptical, I definitely use the handle bars during the high resistance and inclination part but use the heart-rate monitor bars during the low resistance range. This way, I can monitor my heartrate and get a good workout both for my upper and lower body.

I attended Kasha Symposium today from morning through late afternoon. The symposium was held in honor Professor Michael Kasha, founder of Institute of Molecular Biophysics and member of National Academy of Sciences.

The Symposium featured former students. It also incorporated our IMB’s Kasha Seminar and Kasha Award Ceremony. I took some pictures during the ceremony. VTS accompanied me in the afternoon after his practice at FAMU.

VTS joined the meeting briefly in the afternoon.
