Members of my family and my cousin’s family all landed in my akka’s house around 11 AM today in E Tambaram to wish her on she crossing a milestone. Neither my akka nor athan had any clues that people are coming to their home to wish her well. Akka was completely unprepared since her own child didn’t tell her they were all coming to visit her even the child was part of the event planning.

One cousin had just returned from the US that morning, three other cousins had completed a function in their hometown of Vedaraniam and traveled overnight. All my siblings traveled the previous day and wished well from Chengal Pattu. But my sister didn’t realize they are NOT in their homes but were wishing her only miles from her house.

Then on the morning they landed and cut the cake took the blessing from the elders. Then they all went to lunch. My sisters stayed back and traveled the next day to their homes.

Bamboo House

VtS and I went to eat at our regular Chinese restaurant this afternoon. During and soon after the lunch my views on several subjects changed. It was a very interesting lunch, to say the least. But I think it had nothing to do with the restaurant or the food. It was something more organic.

Today VtS helped out little bit by working with HSA organizers in maintaining and taking-down the table at the central square. Hopefully, if his schedule permits he will do it again in the next weeks.

HSA is a new Registered Student Organization at FSU. I have been asked to be the Faculty Advisor and I have accepted the position. I hope to learn from this experience and contribute as much as I can to fulfill the mission of the organization.

FBAR-01 FBAR-03

As part of the Summer Reading program of the Leon County Public Library, we were volunteers helping the library staff conduct some science experiments that were fun while encouraging the kids to read.

We were both at the booth where we did a fake volcano using baking soda, vinegar, and detergent. Bhanu helped make the volcano and bought all the needed materials.

We were set-up the Meeting Room North side wall. VtS and I helped with the demonstrations. I had to run after about 1 hour of help. VtS did stay the whole time.

It was great helping the library staff and its partrons.

GBR-01WP

One of the rooms with wallpaper still in place. It has been more than a decade since the wallpaper was hung. It has started to peel-off.

After more than adjusting with the wallpaper in our kitchen and bathrooms we decided to remove them and replace with the painted walls.

GBR-02NWP

Wallpaper has been removed exposing the sheet rock. Allowed to dry for a day.

The work began this morning and will continue tomorrow and probably the day after. We have hired a trusted company to do the work. We have worked with this company before.

I will post the updates of before and after wallpaper in few days.

GBR-03WP

The dried sheet rock has been painted with Behr Premium Plus Interior Satin Enamel paint. Morning Breeze color

Travel to Atlanta Hindu Temple

Friday, March 14, 2014

Today VtS and I traveled to Atlanta, GA and visited the Atlanta Hindu Temples of Shri Balaji and Lord Shiva. We left town in the morning around 9:35 AM and took our regular route of US 319 and then we took I 75.

We stopped at Tifton around noon and had lunch at a fast food restaurant. We then drove in I 75 N toward Atlanta, GA. We arrived at Hindu Temple of Atlanta sometime around 3 PM. Since it was Friday afternoon there were only few devotees. We went inside both the Balaji temple and the Shive temple. The priest gave special pooja and we offered our donations and went around the sanctum sanctorum and took some prasad.

We spent about an hour and left to our place for stay.
