Several local chapters are sponsoring the events and the events are open to public and will be held at various locations in Tallahassee. The first was First Presbyterian Church at 110 North Adams Street last night at 8:00 PM when Oxford Religion Scholar Peter Harrison spoke about religion and science. He gave several examples in which religion and science worked together and even helped each other.

He said it is not correct to say religion and science are obstructing one another but in contrary they have worked together as far as Aristotle’s time and as recently as Darwin’s time. The problem arises he said when people take small examples of difference of opinion and blow it out of proportion. For example, he showed that even among various religions (Buddhism and Hinduism accept evolution overwhelmingly while certain other religions don’t) there is range of support and opposition for any particular view. So people should not assume science and religion are in conflict simply because one religious view supports or one opposes it. He hoped in the future both will work together.
